Bring On The Beatings

by Commodore on January 3, 2010

Amen to that

Amen to that

Baby boomers everywhere can share in an extra chuckle today.  After years of calling the younger generations “weak”, “coddled” and “pussies”, for the over protection they receive when it comes to perceived child abuse, it seems as if some physical discipline does a body good.

A study found that youngsters smacked up to the age of six did better at school and were more optimistic about their lives than those never hit by their parents.  They were also more likely to undertake voluntary work and keener to attend university, experts discovered.

Finally, we have some scientific proof to help curb the continual pussy-fication of our species.

Currently, parents are allowed by law to mete out “reasonable chastisement” on their children, providing smacking does not leave a mark or bruise. These limits were clarified in the 2004 Children’s Act.

Reasonable chastisement?  Kids test rules (and their limits) by trying to do the opposite of what they were told.  And now science has brought the beatings back into style in order to make our children more successful.  I think I want to have kids again now that sanity is back in play.

Marjorie Gunnoe, professor of psychology at Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, said her study showed there was insufficient evidence to deny parents the freedom to determine how their children should be punished.  She said: “I think of spanking as a dangerous tool, but there are times when there is a job big enough for a dangerous tool. You just don’t use it for all your jobs.”

So here here young parents.  If you still have your New Year’s glasses half full, I’d like to make a toast.  If your kid’s acting an ass and he won’t listen for shit?  Well I hope he’s enjoyed it because in the immortal words of Bill Cosby, “There’s going to be a beating…tonight.”
