And voila!
We’d be a bit naive to think that the U.S. government doesn’t engage in “shady tactics” from time to time. Shady tactics can be anything from witholding information before elections, scaring us when we need to not focus on something else, or using OnStar to make Tiger Woods crash his SUV and then planting a bunch of text messages on his phone. But never did I think they would be as blatant as this.
The latest calculation of the National Debt as posted by the Treasury Department has – at least numerically – exceeded the statutory Debt Limit approved by Congress last February as part of the Recovery Act stimulus bill.
At least numerically? Debt is a described soley by the use of numbers. Is there another way for debt to be explained other than numerically? Has it fallen short, alphabetically? Has it yet to reach it’s potential, philospohically? Is the Treasury Department for fucking serious?
The ceiling was set at $12.104 trillion dollars. The latest posting by Treasury shows the National Debt at nearly $12.135 trillion. A senior Treasury official told CBS News that the department has some “extraordinary accounting tools” it can use to give the government breathing room in the range of $150-billion when the Debt exceeds the Debt Ceiling.
Even the author of the article put “extraordinary accounting tools” in quotes because he must have thought, “Ohhhhh k, that sounds a little shady.” Is there even one thing we’re supposed to take away from the words “extraordinary accounting tools” other than, something illegal? If the IRS audits you, I’m guessing that explaining how you came up with that value of money donated to charities was by using an ”extraordinary accounting tool” is not going to get them off your front step and on their merry way. WTF!
