Is There An Organization For Everything?

by Commodore on June 4, 2010

I see that.

Everyone has a gripe and a cause they fight for.  It’s a by-product of the good life we live.  Some people want to stop deforestation, some people fight for human rights, and some people, well, some people need to find something better to do.

Four peaceful protesters, some dressed in full-length black and yellow bee costumes, represented the American Literacy Council and the London-based Spelling Society and stood outside the Grand Hyatt on Thursday, where the Scripps National Spelling Bee is being held. Their message was short: Simplify the way we spell words.

Really?  Four protesters are news worthy now?  And these four people represented two “societies”.  I bet memberships are booming when your co-sponsored protest draws four people.  WTF is going on here!  Maybe the reason that you couldn’t round up a starting 5 is because what you’re fighting is akin to telling gravity to stop pulling so hard.

Roberta Mahoney, 81, a former Fairfax County, Va. elementary school principal, said the current language obstructs 40 percent of the population from learning how to read, write and spell. “Our alphabet has 425-plus ways of putting words together in illogical ways,” Mahoney said. The protesting cohort distributed pins to willing passers-by with their logo, “Enuf is enuf. Enough is too much.”  According to literature distributed by the group, it makes more sense for “fruit” to be spelled as “froot,” “slow” should be “slo.”

Yes, because spelling like 14 year-old girls on Twitter is a step in the right direction for society.  Roberta Mahoney..or should I say Row-burt-ah Mahonee?  Eye think it maykes moor sents 4 u 2 go holm now.  Seeree-usslee, eim eggs sauce ted.
