I understand that people get in ruts from time to time, not just physical trenches, but emotional ones too. And sometimes we are so caught up in the drama that we can’t see the situation for what it is from out side the bubble we are in…This is not one of those times.

Dear DoubleTake,

I have been in a relationship with a man for about two years now, and I fear I am wasting my time. He has three kids by three other women, and he’s only been married once.

I guess my question is, am I wasting my time? He is a good man but is very selfish.

I also have a son by him, which makes four children for him. He hasn’t mentioned anything about being marriage. He did ask us to live with him, but to me that’s still not good enough.

He’s never bought me jewelry, which to me symbolizes how special a person is. I’m not sure if this makes sense, but I really don’t feel this man cares for me like he should or even plans on making a future with me.

What do you think?

This was an email to an advice column in a San Diego paper. Has San Diego been void of real issues for so long that people can’t think for themselves anymore? It’s a like a bunch of Terry Shiavo’s walking (well…you get the point) around needing to be intellectually spoon fed.

Gee, the guy has 4 kids with 4 different women and doesn’t want me to say the word marriage, but boy, if he bought me some jewelry, I’d know that he really loves me. I didn’t know gold digging caused reduced brain functions, but now I do.

The rest of the animal kingdom once again shakes its head in disgust in our direction, but only for the split second it has in between trying to not get eaten, and trying to find something to quell it’s starving hunger.
