Just because the little guy attacked, doesn't make this a fair fight
Most would agree that our military and technological advantages over our enemies in Iraq and Afghanistan are nothing short of blinding. It’s akin to the 200 Spanish riding on horseback who defeated the Aztecs by themselves. It’s like we’re fighting an enemy stuck in the Bronze Age. And yet, when they thwart us, we find a way to blame something else.
Militants in Iraq have used $26 off-the-shelf software to intercept live video feeds from U.S. Predator drones, potentially providing them with information they need to evade or monitor U.S. military operations. Senior defense and intelligence officials said Iranian-backed insurgents intercepted the video feeds by taking advantage of an unprotected communications link in some of the remotely flown planes’ systems.
See what they did there? Forget the fact that a $26 off-the-shelf piece of hardware s able to infiltrate the mighty U.S. military, the important point is that it was an Iranian’s idea! How dare the Iranians try to fight back against an enemy they despise! Rat bastards! Down with the Iranians! (The masses cheer.)
The drone intercepts mark the emergence of a shadow cyber war within the U.S.-led conflicts overseas.
Is that what you’re calling this? A shadow cyber war? I still think we have a slight advantage, no? A couple of dudes go to an electronic store and buy a household item to try and defend themselves from unmanned aircraft and laser guided bombs and this is now a cyber war? That would be like someone showing up to a quarrel with a new found musket while his opponents have Gatling guns and the scholars calling it, “an emergence of a shadow gun fight”. WTF
