Loneliness – The New Cooties

I knew it! All of you constant complainers or screaming-for-attention Facebook Status updaters, i.e. “Had a rough day” or “Hopefully tomorrow will be a better day”, can take your negative galactic energy and keep it to yourself. You’re bringing everyone else down.

Is loneliness contagious? A new study suggests the answer is yes. The new study suggests those with a negative vibe spread it merely by being in regular contact with that person.

And since “regular contact” is defined as you at the top of my Facebook feed everytime I sign in, bitching about something unimportant, I’m gonna have to ask you to stop. It’s for my well being.

Lead author of the study is Dr. John Cacioppo, a psychologist at the University of Chicago. He says “negative social interactions are more powerful and have a bigger impact than positive social interactions”. He adds that loneliness is “transmitted” through those social interactions.

Had a “rough” day? He/She doesn’t like you? Read a book. Cry it out. Go for a run. But for godsake, don’t call anyone and tell them about it. And definitely don’t tell the world on Facebook! We’re all trying to enjoy our day and don’t need any Negative Nancies bringing us down. When you cheer yourself up, hit us up.
